How Product Revenue Share works
Product Revenue Share helps you pay the people behind your products. You add them to a product with their share, and every order records what they earned. You pay them your usual way, then mark the payout as paid.
The basics
- Payee
- A person who earns from a product, like an illustrator, author or teacher. They need a user account on your store.
- Share
- What a payee gets from each sale. It's a percentage of the price after coupons, or a fixed amount for each item.
- Earning
- A payee's share of one order. The plugin records it when the order is paid.
- Hold period
- How many days an earning waits before you can pay it. It's 30 days by default, so returns come in first.
- Payout
- Your record that you paid someone. The plugin doesn't send money itself.
From sale to payout
- You add payees to a product.
- A customer buys it. When the order is Processing, each payee gets an earning.
- The earning is On hold for 30 days. If the customer gets a refund, the earning goes down by the same share.
- After the hold period, the earning is Ready to pay.
- You pay the payee by bank transfer, PayPal or cash, and mark the payout as paid.
You can change the order status and the number of days in Settings.
An example
Good Ideas Studio sells a mug designed by Meera Iyer and photographed by Daniel Cruz. Meera gets 12% of each sale. Daniel gets $3.00 for each mug. A customer buys 3 mugs in order #1042:
| Order #1042 | Amount |
|---|---|
| 3 mugs at $32.00 | $96.00 |
| Meera, 12% of $96.00 | $11.52 |
| Daniel, $3.00 × 3 mugs | $9.00 |
| The store keeps | $75.48 |
The order is paid on Sep 2, so both earnings are ready to pay on Oct 2. If the customer returns one mug before then, Meera gets $7.68 and Daniel gets $6.00.
Where to find things
- Product editor, Revenue Share tab
- Add payees and their shares.
- WooCommerce > Revenue Share
- Payouts, History and Settings. Your license key goes in Settings.
- Order screen
- A Revenue Share box with each payee's earning from that order.
- My Account > Revenue Share
- Where payees see their own earnings and payouts, after their first sale.
What it doesn't do
It doesn't send money. It isn't an affiliate plugin, so there are no referral links or click tracking. A payee earns on every sale of their product, wherever the customer came from. It isn't a marketplace either: you add and manage the products, not your payees.
